We’d Like Your Help to Make More Storia Adventures
over 6 years ago – Mon, Jun 04, 2018 at 11:30:55 PM

Hello, backers of No Thank You, Evil!

Thanks to (so far) over 850 backers, we’ve funded the reprint of No Thank You, Evil! And that means we’re now reaching stretch goals! Just this morning, we hit the stretch goal that allows us to make a cloth map of Storia! It’s included free at the levels that get all unlocked stretch goals, and as a $20 add-on.

The campaign is almost over, but before it ends we’d love to add a new product with new adventures to the lineup:

It’s Raining Cats and Dinosaurs!

First, we’re going to add another delivery to the fun BEE MAIL! reward—a set of PDF deliveries that starts in July and now runs through early 2019. Each PDF includes a new adventure as well as additional goodies, such as new creatures, pregenerated characters, props, and more. Kids will love getting special messages directly from their friend Woodlynn the Queen Bee, inviting them to Storia for even more exciting adventures. If we hit this stretch goal, that reward will be even better!

Then we’re going to turn all of that content into a new product. It’s Raining Cats and Dinosaurs! will include the four adventures from the BEE MAIL! digital reward. But that’s not all: we’ll also add a bunch of character and monster standups.

These are character and monster standups from Uh-Oh, Montsers! and I’m a Guide! It’s Raining Cats and Dinosaurs! will contain additional new standups.

So check out the campaign to help fund this new product, and to get your hands on other great new rewards such as BEE MAIL! deliveries and the already-unlocked cloth map of Storia. But don’t dawdle, because the campaign ends tomorrow!

Want Some More No Thank You, Evil!?
over 6 years ago – Tue, May 15, 2018 at 09:55:17 PM

The No Thank You, Evil! Reprint Kickstarter is now live! As we mentioned in the last update, we're nearly sold out of the original game, so this is a great opportunity to reprint the game, and make sure that no one misses out on aliens, astronauts, and Being Awesome.

If you already have the game, we also have something special just for you: Bee Mail! Starting in July, you and your players will get three PDF deliveries right from Woodlyn, the Queen Bee herself. Each will include a full adventure, as well as special goodies, such as printable props, new creatures and characters, and more! (And if we hit stretch goals, you'll get every additional Bee Mail! digital reward!).

We also have a special backer level just for schools, libraries, counselors, and organizations that work with children. They get two copies of No Thank You, Evil! at a special price, so that we can get the games into the hands of even more children who can benefit.

Rewards will be shipped in the fall, so they're also a great choice if you're in need of holiday gifts for friends and loved ones!

Check out the Kickstarter now -- and please help us spread the word. We know there are a ton of new families out there who would love to play No Thank You, Evil!

No Thank You, Evil! — A Story So Nice We’re Telling it Twice

When we came up with the idea for No Thank You, Evil! back in 2015, we weren’t sure if anyone would be interested in it. A family roleplaying game designed around immersion, inclusion, and being awesome together? We knew it was a risk, but it was one we were passionate about taking.

Thanks to your help, that risk was worth it–more than we ever imagined. In the last three years, we’ve heard so many stories from families and organizations that warmed our hearts. Tales of unicorns and knights, of dragon snot, dinosaurs, and ninjas. Stories of parents and medical professionals improving the life and skills of kids through the use of our little game. But most of all, tales of families and friends coming together, sometimes across time and space, to tell stories together.

In fact, so many families have told so many stories, that the game’s popularity has continued to grow, so much so that it has gone out of print sooner than we anticipated! To make sure no one misses out on aliens, astronauts, and Being Awesome, we’re launching a Kickstarter to reprint the game.

Your requests for more content for your current games have been heard, too: we’ll be announcing some new things in the Kickstarter that we think you and your family are going to love!

So, Why a Reprint Kickstarter?

We are thrilled that after two years of hard work, we’re now fulfilling Invisible Sun—perhaps the most ambitious RPG product (physically, at least) ever published. And in the next couple of weeks we’ll be sending our new Numenera corebooks (Numenera Discovery and Numenera Destiny) to press for their launch this summer. These are the two largest projects MCG has ever embarked upon, and they’re happening very close together. It’s a terrible time to have to also reprint another of our major games.

But even if that weren't the case, Kickstarter has been (and probably always will be) our business model. And there are a number of benefits to doing this reprint as a Kickstarter, rather than going through a traditional reprint process.

New Stuff! A Kickstarter allows us to potentially offer new items for players (which is something that people have been asking for—and we want to make that happen!).

Doing Good. With a Kickstarter, we can offer a special backer level to organizations and schools that are using No Thank You, Evil! to work with students on improving their social skills, dealing with trauma, and overcoming grief. This is something that’s near and dear to our hearts, and the business model of Kickstarter makes that it possible.

You’ll Have Your Game Sooner. If we were using a traditional reprint model, we wouldn’t see a reprint until next year. This way, as soon as the Kickstarter closes, we will have the money to print new games, ensuring that there won’t be a large lag time (and we won’t run out at retail stores).

What Will the Kickstarter Offer?

It will offer the reprint of the original game, of course, as well as a way to get the cool expansions that you might have missed out on.

In addition to the game and expansions, we have some special things in mind for those of you who’ve been playing No Thank You, Evil! with your family and are looking for a new bit of Storia. We’ll announce these in all their glorious detail when the Kickstarter launches on May 15th! Stay tuned.

Discover your Numenera Destiny
over 7 years ago – Tue, Sep 19, 2017 at 10:39:49 AM

Hello, wonderful No Thank You, Evil! backers!

We have exciting news for those of you interested in grown-up games. We have just launched a Kickstarter campaign called Numenera 2: Discovery and Destiny that is creating two new corebooks for Numenera, the far-future science fantasy game about exploration and discovery that launched our company five years ago. AND, in the time it took me to write this, we have already funded and are sailing toward a first stretch goal! By Calaval’s Eyes! If you’ve been curious about Numenera, now is an excellent time to jump in!

The new corebooks—Numenera Discovery and Numenera Destiny—aren’t a new edition, but a natural next step in Numenera’s evolution. Numenera does a great job of helping players tell stories about exploring the ruins of the past, and now we’re taking gameplay to the next step: using what we find among the ruins to build a better future. Numenera 2 products are going to be totally compatible with any Numenera or other Cypher System books you might have already, with the partial exception that the character options books are going to be less useful following the improvements to characters in Numenera Discovery

We’re doing something really unusual and interesting in this campaign: Numenera 2 backers will shape the fate of a Ninth World village called Ellomyr, and the trials and triumphs of the village will be recorded in a sourcebook about Ellomyr, The Trilling Shard!

We hope you’ll help us spread the word about #Numenera2, and journey with us to Discover your Numenera Destiny

Let's have some Story, Please!
almost 8 years ago – Wed, Mar 08, 2017 at 10:34:39 AM

Hello, backers of No Thank You, Evil!

We're excited to announce that today sees the release of the first-ever supplement to No Thank You, Evil!. With Story, Please!, you can journey into Storia in adventures of your own design. Combine an engaging STORY card with one or more cool PLACE and PERSON cards to outline your quest. Then give your adventure a surprising TWIST, and maybe some fun and useful STUFF. There are even maps and handouts. Pick cards, draw them at random, or mix and match to create a great story with all the details you need—in minutes!

Story, Please! hits game stores, and the MCG Shop, today!

Coming Soon: Uh-Oh, Monsters!

But that’s not all! We just sent Uh-Oh, Monsters! to press, and it will be out in May. Uh-Oh, Monsters! is a larger product than Story, Please!—it comes in a box similar to the main No Thank You, Evil! game, and includes two books, creature cards, standups, and handouts. The Claws and Paws book is chock-full of monsters, humans, aliens, robots, and tons of other walking, talking, fighting, biting creatures you’ll encounter in Storia. It also goes into deeper detail on the Monster Museum and even teaches you how to make your own monsters. The Lairs and Scares book includes four complete adventures.

If you're looking for more adventures, more creatures, and more creative fun for your NTYE game, Story, Please! and Uh-Oh, Monsters! are riding to the rescue!

Haven't Claimed Your NTYE?

It's been roughly a year since we released No Thank You, Evil! Believe it or not, there are a few backers of this campaign who haven't claimed their copy. If that's you, please do so right away—we only guarantee the availability of rewards for a year, and particularly if you backed for the exclusive Deluxe edition we may soon run out. Fortunately, it's easy.

  • Log into the MCG Shop using the same email address you used for the Kickstarter.
  • Go to My Account, then click on Coupons.
  • You should see a coupon for your reward. Click on the coupon, then go to the shopping cart and check out!

For the Grownups: A Strange Box

Here’s a bit of non-NTYE news we thought you might like to hear about. We’re currently Kickstarting a boxed set for The Strange with the intent of filling it full of as much amazing coolness as we did for the Exclusive Numenera Boxed Set Edition. That Numenera box was perhaps the most awesome RPG boxed set of all time, but we’re hoping to match it with A Strange Box. The Kickstarter runs for the next week or so, so don’t miss it.

(If you haven’t tried The Strange—or if you have just a few of the books—there’s an incredible deal on the entire game line in PDF as part of the LIBRARY OF IMPOSSIBLE THINGS backer level. Check it out!)
